Since the invention of ray-tracing, this rendering technique has been used to produce stunning, realistic computer-generated images. But the complexity of the method has defied acceleration on hardware. Mental Images has ported their rendering engines onto the GPU platform and use the massively parallel GPU architecture. With this processing power and software from Mental Images, CATIA V6 can now produce interactive ray-traced rendered images thereby increasing the productivity of designers.
